Confidence is having faith in yourself. Arrogance is forcing your sense of self-worth on everyone all the time. Confidence is, knowing, for your own sake, that you're funny or a good writer or good scientist or whatever it is. Arrogance is needing everyone else to know that.

To answer your second question, I think any belief that is militant and calls for the subjugation of a different group to ensure the success of the group they represent is doing it wrong. So women that hate all men - that doesn't make sense to me, and I think it's destructive. But of course that same logic applies to racism, misogyny, whatever. To proclaim: THIS WHOLE SUB-SECTION OF THE POPULATION ARE JUST ALL FUCKERS is a dumb thing to say. -

I guuuuuess I couldn't really pin it down exactly. I like stylized things, good characters, and good humor. The last two are most important and can stand on their own. It just so happens that a lot of sci fi tends to do characters and humor really well. And Avatar is just fucking fantastic in every way.
