I live with bipolar ll; was diagnosed at 25. I'm pretty much text book, but was misdiagnosed as MDD. All of my crazy escapades & hyperactivity was shrugged off as, "Yea! Amy is feeling better!" until one day psychosis showed its ugly face. Brought on by mania, I flipped out; thought the sky was falling & started reciting the "Big Bang Theory" to EVERYONE, even my intake counselor. My mom finally stood up & said, "You F'ing people don't have this right!"
I've since become an advocate for mental health research; first & foremost my own advocate. I now work in geriatric psychiatry. I've learned medications span from one spectrum to the other. It depends on the med, the mg & the daily reg. Your "personal daily reg". It took me awhile to get mine right, I flipped-flopped, laughed, cried, went mildly psychotic...But, one day we got it right! Some meds made me lethargic, some made me stay in bed. Some made me loose my thought mid-speech, some I talked too fast. It took time, but I haven't felt like Chicken Little anymore. :)
It's like fine tuning strings, you must be picky. I luckily found my pitch.
