It's a good question. We're getting rid of that practice very soon.

Not really sure how to answer your question. Perhaps there are AFI Alumni from South America. Worth asking at the AFI Alumni Facebook page, located here: http://facebook.com/AFIAlumni

The American Film Institute does not eat ice cream (because it is not a person). :)

There are no AFI's 100 Years... programs planned in the near future, however, it does not mean there won't be another program in the series at a later date.

We cannot give an opinion like this as an institution, however, AVATAR was listed on AFI's Moments of Significance for the 2009 AFI Awards.

AFI distributes a ballot with 400 or more films to a jury over 1,500 leaders from the creative community, including film artists (directors, screenwriters, actors, editors, cinematographers), critics and historians. Due to the extensive number of movies jurors may also write in votes for up to five films that may not already appear on the ballot. Since film is a subjective medium, there will always be debate about the selected (films, musicals, quotes, etc).
For the 100 Years... 100 Movies show, jurors were asked to consider the following criteria in making their selections:
400 nominated films
FEATURE-LENGTH FICTION FILM
AMERICAN FILM
CRITICAL RECOGNITION
MAJOR AWARD WINNER
POPULARITY OVER TIME
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE
CULTURAL IMPACT -

Thank you for suggesting Doris Day as a candidate for the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award.
Let us explain the selection process: The Life Achievement Award recipient is selected by a committee made up of members of the Institute's Board of Trustees. A Board Selection Committee meets and selects a list of Life Achievement Award nominees, with the final selection voted on by the full Board of Trustees at their November meeting. At this time, members may vote for individuals recommended by the Selection Committee, or nominations may be made from the floor.
AFI’s Life Achievement Award recognizes an individual "whose talent has in a fundamental way advanced the film art; whose accomplishment has been acknowledged by scholars, critics, professional peers and the general public; and whose work has stood the test of time." In 1993, the trustees further defined the Life Achievement Award recipient to include "those artists with an active career and work of significance yet to be accomplished." It is a difficult process, and the Board strives to reach a consensus as to which individual best meets these requirements.
Sadly, Ms. Day has declined the award on many occasions. She has chosen to remain out of the Hollywood spotlight and no longer makes public appearances.
We appreciate your taking the time to write to AFI on behalf of this legendary actress. -
