Hi Ella,
My backup is to download my cards to two different harddrives, once they're culled and edited I back those up to said hd's again and they get burned to a dvd as well. So, essentially they are kept backed up in 3 places. Once I cull and edit, I delete the raw files and only keep those edited that my.clients get. As of right now, I don't keep them for a certain length of time. I still have my first wedding on dvd too. The hard drives and docks I use are blackx docks and seagate or western digital internal hard drives. :) -
There are always different things for different people. Personally, I would work towards everything. Start with a little here and there. You definitely don't have to jump in and get everything all at once. Most of us took more than 2 years to really have everything we were happy with, and there's always wanting more or wanting to change.
I know that doesn't help much, but it's really about what would work for you. Start little by little and grow, you will go through changes too so getting everything at once may be hard later on when you want to change. -
I guess this depends on what your definition of traditional is, but I would say that only one or two weddings a year (that I shoot) are considered by most: Traditional. So, I guess if that's the case, then yes, I shoot many non traditional weddings. If your definition is something very very much outside the box, then probably not. Can you specify?!
I'd like to think one of my main words to describe my style is Modern, so Traditional isn't always something that gravitates towards me. -
Sometimes I submit work to them via their guidelines on their site, and sometimes they find me and ask to feature my work (or a particular wedding from my blog). It's a whole 'notha job in itself to submit, but its worth it :)

Take a picture. I am a self proclaimed ham though, and really don't mind having my own photo taken. At times, like anyone, I am self conscious, but I usually am up for anything and don't shy away! :) But I love taking them far more!

Only if they love it so much they can't imagine doing anything else. If it's a passion and it gives you the joy and pleasure you need in your life, then do it!

lol, I wonder who this is. We don't have specific plans right now, but it's safe to say that we will be in the very near future. ;)

wow, great questions!
-I first decided to persue photography as a career around 2005. Not too long ago, when I was in college, I was a marine biology major...let's just say, it wasn't working out for me. I switched colleges, took a semester off and BAM. I realized you COULD make a career out of photograph and I went to a new college with a program speciaizing in it. I worked with other photographers for a year after graduating and then jumped into on my own in Jan. 2009!
-My first professional session was a childs portrait session at the park. I was still in college shooting film. It was fun, and I shot it photojournalistically for the most part. Tons of fun and so nerve racking.
-I dont know if I get nervous, but I do get anxious. I am just hoping we click as much in person, or more, than we do from email or phone chats! We always do...but I still get a little anxious when it comes to meeting and shooting, even if I already know them :)
-The hand off is nerve racking, but I can usually tell when their feelings are as soon as they see the sneak peeks. They are so excited that I know once they get the full set, it's gonna be like Christmas! You just have to trust that they chose you for a reason, and you'll give them your best always! -
lol...whatever u say!
-
ha, i've been asked this before and I honestly have NO idea....you can be the judge!
-
It was probably creative writing....I loved having the freedom to write what I wanted....I had a great teacher too (Mrs. Romano) whom I will never forget. I also really liked this called we had called P.I.G....it was sort of politics/history etc...it was pretty fun.
-
Uh, I believe this is not something I am going to answer on here cause It's just weird. Thanks though.

Snow White :) i just have always loved her best hahaha.

hmmm...I was the opposite, moving from NY to Florida...Def make sure you have a heavy winter coat. I am partial to pea coats. Def some cardigans..I love button ups since I get cold easily and have a few diff. colors. I love boots, I have all lengths in black (my preference of color for boots), those are a must. I love hats too, those can be fun and cute. Maryland is beautiful too, so def some great shades and leggings if youre into them!

Its definitely hard, but you really just have to put yourself out there. Maybe start by going to local businesses that you can pair with and introduce yourself, show them your work...build a relationship! Then, maybe find a local wedding guild/chapter and see if you can sit in on a meeting or luncheon....it's overwhelming, but peers are just as important and client word of mouth! Be yourself..YOU CAN DO IT!

Well, as I usually say, if you don't want to photograph a particular kind of shoot, then don't show it (blog, post on website)....cause' then others will be coming to you for that as well. If there's something I am not super comfortable shooting or dont "want to be consistently hired for", then I usually just dont shoot it. I do like to challenge myself and try new things, but once I try it, if I find I dont like it, then I usually wont continue it on a regular basis. I urge you to try everything once, but if you dont like it and dont want to do it more, then dont show it. :) Hope that helps!

When things get busy and I know I need to unwind, or when I get downtime, I try to just get away. If a weekend isn't available, then I try to take a break at the beach, go outside and relax and read, head to a theme park....anywhere where work isn't at my fingertips. If I am home and I try to unwind, I usually almost always go back to "work"....so I try and remove myself from the temptation. I love what I do, but we all need some time to be inspired and refreshed too, and no one can blame us for that :). I just love getting away, or heading somewhere where I can think but relax at the same time! It's important to still be you and to be 100% all the time!
-
Once you have gained enough for your portfolio (in the kid area anyways), then I would start charging a session fee (1 hour shoot time etc..), and then allowing them to buy prints a la carte. I'm not sure the pricing because I dont know your experience level or work, but I can say that you def. have to start charging something...and soon! :) and be confident in what you charge and why! :)
I hope that helped:)....(smiley face overkill here....sorry hehe) -
Hey Nate buddy!
For lightroom, I have the new Totally Rad action Lightroom presets...I really only use a few that fit my style, but I love their black and white presets for lightroom! They kick ass.
For photoshop, I dont use much, but I do use Totally Rad actions for photoshop too! I have only a few I use all the time, but they truly are the best for me. MCP Actions has some great ones too...check those out!
