Well I learned quite recently that "Allison" is the Norman French diminutive of Alice which means "noble" or "of the noble sort." My nobility, however, is questionable depending on what ones definition of "noble" is. I was also named after my grandma who I love and miss very much. May her beautiful soul rest in peace. :)
